General & Public Liability

General & Public Liability

Every business that lets people through its doors, or whose operations touch the public, carries a simple but serious exposure: someone could be injured, or their property damaged, and hold you legally responsible. General (public) liability insurance answers that risk.

What general liability insurance is

General (public) liability insurance covers yourlegal liability to third parties for bodily injury or property damagearising out of your premises and business operations. It pays the compensation awarded and, just as importantly, the legal costs of defending the claim.

What happens if a visitor is injured

The classic scenario: a customer slips in your store, a client is hurt by falling material at your office, or your operations damage a neighbour’s property. In each case the injured party can bring a claim — and your liability policy responds to both the award and the defence.

What it covers

  • third-partybodily injuryon your premises or from your operations;
  • third-partyproperty damageyou are legally liable for;
  • legal defence costs; and
  • liability arising in the ordinary course of your business activities.

Public liability vs product liability

Who needs it

Offices with visitors, retail and hospitality, factories and warehouses, event organisers and contractors — any business whose premises or activities expose third parties to risk. It is frequently required by landlords, principals and event venues.

Common extensions

Commercial General LiabilityCombines public and product liability in one policy.
Sudden & accidental pollutionLiability from an unexpected pollution incident.
Tenant’s / car-park liabilityLiability for leased premises and parking areas.
Act of God perilsLiability arising in connection with natural events, where added.

How limits are set

Cover is arranged with anAny One Accident (AOA)limit and anAny One Year (AOY)aggregate. The right level reflects your footfall, the nature of your operations and the scale of harm a single incident could cause.

What it does not cover

Typical Exclusions

  • professional negligence (that belongs under professional indemnity);
  • injury to your own employees (covered under employees’ compensation);
  • deliberate acts and contractual liabilities assumed beyond common law;
  • product recall and pure financial loss.

How Aurevian helps

Aurevian helps youset adequate AOA/AOY limits, combine public and product cover where sensible, add the right extensions, and manage claims— so a single accident on your premises never becomes an uninsured liability.

You cannot control every visitor or every operation — but you can control whether a resulting claim is insured.
